Unemployment benefits are offered to members of the Fund as prescribed in section 35 of Public Service Social Security Fund Act No. 2 of 2018. A qualified member shall be entitled of this benefit as prescribed in Regulation 21(1).

Conditions for a member to qualify for this benefit are: -
  • A member has contributed to the Fund for a period not less than 18 months,
  • A member has been terminated or ceased to be employed in the circumstances other than resignation,
  • A member is the citizen of United Republic of Tanzania,
  • A member is not qualified for pensions, gratuity or any other long-term benefits payable,
  • A member has proven to the Director General that he has not secured another employment,
  • A member is below voluntary retirement age (depending on terms of employment).

For a member to be granted unemployment benefit, an employer has to submit duly filled application form PS – BEN.6 with the following attachment:

  • Termination letter from employer,
  • Current salary slip,
  • Declaration on the proof the claimant has not secured another Employment, in accordance with the Oaths and statutory Declaration Act
  • Proof of Tanzanian citizenship (Certified copy of Birth Certificate, National ID, Driving License, Passport or Voters Registration card)

Qualified member shall be paid thirty-three per centum of salary on termination, shall be paid for a maximum period of six months within 12 months. Unemployment benefits will cease immediately when a member re employed. For members who have contributed to the Fund for a period less than 18 months shall be paid fifty percent (50%) of their total contributions.
